Don’t really understand what you are telling us with the totals. Are you adding up both Part A and Part B? Meaning we need to have both Part A and B plus together and G and Advantage plan as well for both Part A and B? Or are the6 separate and you choose to have either A or B or You need A to Have B and it is on top of A? I am trying to learn for me and my siblings and my Moms future. I am 58 Thank you.

"Approved procedures and services" is the key phrase. Medicare Advantage plans make money through "denial of service." Don't ever get a Medicare Advantage plan. They wouldn't cover my friend's colon cancer treatments, called them experimental. They were just standard immunotherapy that Medicare covers. If she had had basic Medicare they would have covered it and she wouldn't have had to go to India and live for 3 months to get the treatments there. DENIAL OF SERVICE IS HOW MEDICARE ADVANTAGE PLANS MAKE THEIR MONEY plus they do other things that the Department of Justice is currently suing several of the big ones for involving Medicare fraud. Not to mention many big hospital networks don't take Medicare Advantage plans anymore for this denial of service reason. They have to get approval for every stupid thing whereas basic Medicare they don't.

So BLUE when I try to understand all of this. I am a state employee and my husband became very sick 14 years ago, closing his self employed business. My employer HMO plan has saved his life, literally, 3 times because they have a fully integrated health system-monthly blood work, specialists and pharmacists have alerts to track all of his vitals and call him / contact him frequently to get his medical needs addressed. I am terrified to retire and go on Medicare because I don’t think this HMO or level of care will be possible. I am 58 and he is 60 and we don’t know what the future holds, but I appreciate finding your channel and getting more educated to inform our decisions. Absolutely I subscribed and appreciate you and your expertise.

I sport HOKA shoes with custom inserts. Medicare doesn't cover my condition regarding custom inserts. Therefore my podiatrist writes a script for custom inserts and the co-pay is $400. The plan is when I recover from my hip and wrist surgery. I will be scheduling surgery for my feet.

If I had a choice for no joint replacement, that would be my option. Lucky I have found that option in the carnivore diet. Arthritis gone and not because of doctor recommendation after having an arthritis induced fracture of the knee, but through research into what causes and reverses the damage of inflammation through diet.

I have traditional Medicare and an F supplement. My total knee replacement with all the pre-op costs, surgery costs, 12 physical therapy visits and two surgeon follow ups after the initial 90 day period. My total cost was $0. I also had a fair amount of pre-surgical lab work that was billed separately from the surgery. In my case I stayed overnight in the hospital. My total surgery bill was about $56K and everything else came to about $12K. I don't attribute all of my Part B and Plan F premiums to this surgery since I had about $80K in other medical services that year. I don't carry dental or vision since I only pay about $60 per year for vision and dental coverage around here stinks. I do have a drug plan but it is $0.50/mo.

I had a hip replacement in Jan 2023. I paid my $226 deductible against my pre-op tests. I went to the surgeon of my choice, was in PT rehab for 12 days, the dr prescribed follow-up meds, and I had in-home PT for four weeks after rehab. I have Part A&B and Supplement G. Aside from my Part B premium and Supp G premium, I had no additional out-of-pocket costs. That’s including all my follow-ups with the surgeon and his PAs. A&B and supp G are more than worth it for me.

Another possible way to go is to forget these plans and just go with Medicare Parts A and B. Using these numbers you would pay $4244 while for Plan G you would pay about $2000 (ignoring Part B premiums for both and drug, vision, dental). This is a difference of $2200 which is not too much of a downside risk. After all, how many major medical procedures is one likely to have? If you had just this one within a two year time then the cost with or without a supplement would be about the same. If you had this one major medical procedure in a three year time period, then you would save money by not having a supplement plan.

Great video. Thanks for showing monthly premiums for supplemental plans. Insurance companies mislead so many of us saying to only get a supplement plan. I am 76 with previous heart attack history so supplement policy monthly charges are exceptionally high for me. I would have to pay more in premiums for supplement plans than the maximum out of pocket under an advantage plan. Nobody ever wants to explain that. Thank you.

I have an Advantage Plan and my expenses have been zero, but I will admit that referrals are a big pain, and your choice of physicians is limited. My husband and I have both had ER visits in the last year with 0 out of pocket. Advantage plans vary widely and I really, really research each plan very thoroughly each year to get the best deal and a good provider list. The plan I'm on has started losing physicians and although it is extremely cheap for us, I don't want to be limited so much to what physicians are available. Our plan even gives each of us $140 every 3 months that we can use for OTC meds or healthy foods. We've gotten more back with the OTC card than we've paid in medical bills. If only the referral situation was better and they weren't causing physicians to drop out, they'd be perfect. We've never had a denial of service, but we haven't had a situation where that might happen. My husband had a heart attack with stent and an ICU stay - cost: $0. He had an ER visit for a fall, MRI, x-ray, and sutures - cost: $0. I had an ER visit and overnight stay for IV antibiotics - cost: $0. Specialist visits are $25.00. No co-pay, no monthly fee and most services cost $0. On a different Advantage Plan six years ago, I had both knees replaced 6 weeks apart. Total cost was $300 for each knee with a 1-day hospital stay for each knee. These plans vary so widely, and some are much better than others. We've been very fortunate so far.

I am so glad I had a long-planned (but Covid-postponed) left THR in 2022, and then a totally unplanned but urgently needed right THR in 2023. My employer insurance was great, with only a $3,500 max OOP. So I REALLY hope that now I am 65, retired as of May 31, and on Medicare, I am done with the bionics. I am so grateful to be walking around better than in years in my Merrell Cozy Glove shoe-slippers. With a tough Vibram sole, they are literally my fave shoes. And Merrell stopped making them!!!
